The IRIB CNR headquarters will host the event where the experimental Bioma project will be presented to the public.
The Bioma project continues its outreach tour with dedicated days.
On June 16, it will be in Palermo, at the Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation (CNR-IRIB), to present the research conducted so far aimed at enhancing the Sicilian almond through activation and pre-germination processes. Following the presentation, there will be a tasting of products made from activated almonds, and participants will be asked to complete an evaluation questionnaire after a comparative analysis.
The project, which aims not only to develop the properties of the Sicilian almond but also to enhance the entire supply chain and the surrounding territory, will be presented from various perspectives.
The event will open with Domenico Nuzzo, who will speak about the importance of enhancement projects for the local area. Following him, Salvatore Zuppardo, in his role as moderator and project coordinator, will introduce the project in its entirety.
Massimiliano Solano will discuss the importance of almond cultivation in Sicily and its agroecological management. Luigi Maria Montalbano will highlight the health benefits of almonds in a balanced diet. Marco Calza will describe the prototype developed for the cold treatment of the product. Alessandra Miele will evaluate the nutritional impact of the seed activation process, and finally, Gaspare Solano will share the initial data from the project's trials.
